U6 Tee Ball
The Board of Directors encourage you to review the League Code of Conduct on the WYBSL web site as it pertains to coaches, players, and fans.
We are looking forward to a safe and enjoyable baseball season.
U6 Tee Ball Division
The Tee Ball Division is the earliest division in the Westford Youth Baseball and Softball league. We focus on the league’s mission of introducing players to the fundamentals of the game, including hitting, throwing, catching and running the bases. We promote good sportsmanship, team play and fun which are the most important aspects of the game, while learning.
We will actively assist in helping our players understand the basic game, stress learning baseball fundamentals and development of core skills for each and every participating child. All players develop at different times as they grow, so it is important, as a league that we work with all players to help them develop a lifelong love of the “game”.
Tee Ball is about learning baseball. Learning to catch and throw a ball, the safety of using and swinging a bat. There are no umpires. We ensure that all players participate in all games at various positions.
U7 Baseball Division
The U7 Division is a developmental league focused on continuing development of a players fundamental skills and knowledge of the game. Our goal is to foster an environment in which players can develop a love and understanding of the game, develop their skills, learn to be good teammates, practice good sportsmanship, and most importantly play and have fun with it.
Though U7 builds on the concepts introduced in T-Ball, all players are welcome regardless of any prior playing experience. U7 is a mix of player and coach pitch, with player pitch being introduced at the end of the season. There are no balls, strikes, walks, or umpires. Outs are played but no score is kept. Coaches are on the field at all times to help players and to ensure a safe environment. All players will have exposure to all positions. Games will be 3 to 6 innings as time allows, and innings will end based on outs or a predetermined number of runs. The ultimate goal of U7 is to have fun and learn along the way.
U8 Division is a developmental league focused on the league’s mission of improving a player’s baseball fundamentals, skills and knowledge of the game. Promoting good sportsmanship, team play and fun are the most important lessons we try and instill in our athletes.
We will actively assist in helping our players understand the game more strategically, stress learning baseball fundamentals and development of core skills for each and every participating child. As all players develop at different times, it is important as a league and coaches that we work with all players to ensure that they develop a lifelong love of the “game”.
The U8 program is a transitional division. It is a continuation of the U7 program with the exceptions of player pitching and more attention to the rules of the game. There is a gradual progression to the calling of balls and strikes, however no official umpires are used. No scores are kept as our emphasis continues to be on the instruction of the game. We ensure that all players play equal amounts of time and have exposure to all positions. Our ultimate goal is for the players to have fun and learn the game.
U9/U10 Baseball Division
The U9/U10 Division is a developmental league focused on the division’s guiding principles of improving player’s baseball fundamentals, skills and knowledge of the game while promoting good sportsmanship, team play and fun through a supervised program of competitive baseball.
Our primary goals for the league are for the players to have fun and to foster a positive, learning environment. We will actively teach baseball fundamentals and promote team play and good sportsmanship.
The U9/U10 program is the entry level of our competitive baseball divisions that play on the “small fields”. The competitive nature encompasses the use of umpires for calling balls and strikes, base stealing is introduced, game scores are recorded and team standings are maintained. The division follows a modified version of the Cal Ripken Baseball rules. All teams make the playoffs and a single or double elimination tournament provides a champion and runner-up at the conclusion of the season.
Note: There will be two games and one practice per week. Games will be on weekdays and/or Saturday. Due to limited field availability in the town, some or all practices will be on Sundays.
